Today we visited Nicholl's Garden Centre to browse through the plant selection.
After this we visited the Dunedin Chinese Garden.
I enjoyed the visit as I had only been once before and it was nice to see more established growth in their plant collection.
The garden has various cohesive themes.
A few of these are; reflection, understanding, wisdom, patience, heaven, earth and balance.
These are expressed through the architecture, symbolism, colour, landscape and flora.
Eg. Straight lines are avoided in the architecture as 'demons' travel along straight lines.
Juxtaposition of earth/rock and water symbolising heaven and earth.
Use of light and shadow to contrast/reveal certain aspects.
Planting for seasonal colour and spiritual symbolism.
